Salad Dressing class counts as 'art in everyday life,' but this city's contribution to that blog feature (see Dick's house in Birmingham, hunting in Hayward, the West Collection outside of Philadelphia, and so on), is really the local video store. After taking me to see the beautiful Multnomah Falls,
Carrie took me to the manmade wonder, Movie Madness. OMG. OMFG. A photo essay will speak for itself, but appreciate the glassed in displays of movie costumes bought at auction by the owner, and the creative taxonomy of the movie sections. Rather extraordinary, in the literal sense of the word.
(Austin Powers' pajamas, Annette Benning's suit in The American President)
On second thought, Movie Madness is more of a “museums in everyday life” category, rather than "art in everyday life," a bit like that guy in Oxford, Mississippi, who turned his home into a shrine to Elvis – decisions by everyday people to collect and to glorify by preserving. The taxonomy, however, is fantastically creative, and made me laugh, on par with Flight of the Conchords lyrics.
